HI Spirits takes on Paddy Irish whiskey

Hi-Spirits will now distribute Paddy Irish Whiskey, the world’s fourth biggest Irish whiskey brand, in the on and off trade and travel markets. It follows the acquisition of the Paddy brand by US spirits company Sazerac in May. Dan Bolton, managing director of Hi-Spirits, said, “Paddy is a wonderful fit with our existing portfolio. Both Irish and American whiskey have seen strong growth over recent years, and being able to offer our customers Paddy alongside the Buffalo Trace American whiskey portfolio is a significant development. We have a very successful track record in growing Sazerac brands, including Buffalo Trace and Fireball, in the UK market. The addition of Paddy, coming hot on the heels of Sazerac’s acquisition of Southern Comfort and Tuaca earlier this year, means it’s an exciting – and busy – time for Hi-Spirits.”

Buffalo Trace look for a twist

Drinks company Hi Spirits believe British bartenders could teach the Americans a thing or two. A new cocktail competition has been launched in collaboration with Buffalo Trace Kentucky Bourbon in a bid to find a twist on the classic bourbon cocktails like the Manhattan and the Old Fashioned. Finalists will have the opportunity to compete at the Buffalo Trace distillery in Kentucky later this year. Recipes can be submitted at www.buffalotrace.co.uk/kentucky2015

Limited edition from Buffalo Trace

Buffalo Trace has launched a limited edition collection of bourbon and rye whiskies. The Buffalo Trace Antique Collection 2014 is a five-strong range, and comes at a time when on-trade sales of American whiskey are on the rise; CGA Peach data shows sale up by 4.2% in the year to 19 April 2014. The five whiskies include George T. Stagg 2014, William Larue Weller unfiltered wheated bourbon, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye, Eagle Rare 17 Year Old and Sazerac 18 Year Old. Dan Bolton, managing director of Hi-Spirits, said, “There is always high demand for our limited UK allocation of the Antique Collection, and we expect that to be higher than ever for the 2014 release after another year of category growth for the American whiskey.”
