The Anglers Inn at Guildtown has just received the accolade Perthshire’s Most Promising New Business of the Year Award.
Businessman Phil McKenna and Ian Cooke have turned the business around after buying it out of administration in April 2014 and re-opening in July after a refurbishment. Today the business is thriving and The Anglers Inn is now a major hub for the local community, covering Guildtown, Scone, Wolfhill, St Martins, Balbeggie, Blairgowrie and Burrelton.
As a business they have been very active in supporting around 20 community activities and charities over the course of the year, proving themselves worthy of being at the heart of this welcoming and supportive community.
It’s Sunday carvery now hosts around 150 people every week, it boasts an extensive lunch and dinner menu, available Monday to Saturday as well as live music acts every fortnight and they also have a beer and music festival in the pipeline. Well done.
The Lovat at Loch Ness now has a 3 AA Rosette. The AA announced the latest restaurants to be awarded the coveted new 3 and 4 AA Rosettes earlier this month, and The Lovat was one of only 19 restaurants nationwide to celebrate being awarded a new higher Rosette award. It was the only restaurant in Scotland receiving this recognition. The AA said of The Lovat, “Today’s hotel not only has a glossy sheen – a successful combination of period charm and modern style – but it’s run on sound eco-friendly principles (ask about the biomass wood chip boiler), so you can be sure everything you’re served in the restaurant is as local and sustainable as possible. In fact, there’s a lot going on in chef Sean Kelly’s world, for as well as being extremely choosy about the ingredients he uses in his five-course dinner menus, he’s also incredibly imaginative and creative, producing dishes that never fail to bring a smile to your face.”
Edinburgh brewer Innis & Gunn is opening a new brand hub in the city centre in July. The company is converting the ground and lower ground floors of the townhouse it occupies in Edinburgh’s West End into a multi-use events space. The ground floor will be given over to two reception rooms: a drawing room with bespoke furniture, open fireplace, club seating and a custom-built oak bar with the other room doubling up as a dining room for events. The lower ground level will house a meeting room and a beer kitchen, equipped with four draught lines pouring two beers from Innis & Gunn’s core range and two rotating limited edition brews. The venue, which will open from 8am to midnight, will be able to accommodate 30 for a sit-down dinner, 50 for a drinks reception, 18 in the beer kitchen and 14 in the meeting room.
