Ian Macleod Distillers is opening its Edinburgh Gin Distillery and visitor centre in Edinburgh and its Glengoyne Distillery, outside Glasgow, from Saturday 1st August. The distilleries temporarily closed their doors due to lockdown.
Both distilleries have been awarded Visit Britain’s ‘We’re Good to Go’ stamp of approval, confirming that they are adhering to the respective Government and public health guidance, have carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment and have the required processes in place to reopen safely and with confidence.
At Edinburgh Gin Distillery www.edinburghgin.com experiences are set to return, where guests will be treated to an insight into the brands. Distillery tastings can be attended by a maximum of eight people from four households and tickets must be booked in advance, released for sale on a monthly basis, with up to four, one-hour tours available per day.
Visitors will be asked to wear masks on arrival and while moving around, and there will be dedicated hygiene stations, with readily available hand sanitizer, around the site. And staff will be wearing Perspex visors, allowing them to engage with guests while sharing the wonder-filled tales of Edinburgh Gin and its award-winning range.

At Glengoyne Distillery http://www.glengoynewhisky.com its popular whisky experiences will return and can be attended by a maximum of 20 people from ten households, while private “Malt Master” experiences will also be available to book for up to four people from a maximum two households. Each hour-long session will see visitors enjoy an incredibly in-depth insight into Glengoyne’s history and award-winning range of single malt whiskies. Tickets must be booked in advance with up to five tours available per day.
Glengoyne’s on-site shop will also reopen, with guests being asked to register on arrival for contact tracing before being able to browse and purchase the brand’s range of whiskies and other gifts.

The Edinburgh Valentine’s Gin is presented in the new art deco bespoke bottle design, bringing it in line with the core range and popular fruit gin liqueurs. Edinburgh Valentine’s Gin has added chamomile, lemon balm, lemongrass and Kaffir lime leaves which contrast with are infused with hibiscus and rose petals for gentle floral notes, giving this distinctive gin a light pink blush.

A new gin has launched under the One Brand, using a Crowd-funder appeal to recruit supporters.
One Gin will follow the same model as One Water, which was launched in 2005 to raise money to aid supply of fresh drinking water to some of the world’s poorest communities.
One Gin uses 9 botanicals from around the world, plus one quintessentially British botanical – sage – foraged from the grounds of the distillery. Handcrafted in small batches in an alembic copper still and then seven-times filtered for an exceptionally smooth finish, the result is a unique British gin with savoury notes of black tea from the marriage of juniper and sage.
To toast the start of Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink, Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky has launched two new limited edition blended Scotch whiskies, an 18 and 21 Year Old. Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky has introduced the additional expressions as an extension to the range that currently features the popular 8yo blend, described by Jim Murray as a ‘superstar whisky that gives us all reason to live’. A fruity and well-balanced 12yo and a limited edition, elegant 50yo, of which only 400 bottles were ever produced, complete the selection.
Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky is owned by one of Scotland’s leading, independent, family-owned distillers, Ian Macleod Distillers. Isle of Skye has launched ‘The Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky Munro Challenge’, a fundraising initiative for Scottish Mountain Rescue. The cause aims to encourage Scots of all ages and climbing abilities to climb one of the country’s 282 Munros, with all money raised going directly towards Scottish Mountain Rescue for new equipment, stretchers and avalanche training. It costs around £1.2m to run the charity every year with 70% of that money generated through fundraising alone so events like ours show how we can all help support Scottish Mountain Rescue.”
