Last Chance For Tickets To Speyside’s Limited Edition Whisky Festival

With just one week to go, the last remaining tickets for this year’s Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival Limited Edition have been released in what will be a packed programme of events celebrating the world-famous Speyside region.

Taking place outside of the usual spring schedule on 3rd to 8th November 2021, in a Limited Edition format to showcase Speyside at its best, this award-winning whisky festival has something for everyone.

As well as plenty of drams to taste and savour, for the food enthusiast there are whisky themed afternoon teas, gourmet dinners and food pairings. And, for gin and cocktails lovers, there are a number of special events.

George McNeil, chairman designate at The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, said, “Earlier this year we brought the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival online with guests from 15 countries around the world logging in but nothing beats being together to celebrate the world’s largest malt whisky producing region in this later than normal limited edition festival. With 97 events already sold out, tickets are flying out of the door.

“In true Spirit of Speyside style, we have a first-class range of events lined up. From behind the scenes tours of some of the world’s most iconic distilleries to intimate tastings, pairings and talks with some of the top innovators in the industry. We’re looking forward to welcoming people back to Speyside to join us for a dram and help us celebrate the very best of our iconic whisky making region.”

Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival goes virtual in April

Spirit of Speyside festival has confirmed that it is going to bring together some of the region’s most loved distilleries and whisky makers online instead of in-person in April but it is still aiming for the festival to go ahead in person in November.

A full programme will be announced in the coming weeks, with events confirmed so far including a tour of one of Scotland’s newest and most contemporary distilleries, Dalmunach Distillery, from Master Distiller, Alan Winchester; an exploration of Benriach’s World of Flavour and new portfolio with Global Brand Ambassador Stewart Buchanan and a whistle-stop virtual tasting tour of Malt Whisky Country with The Malt Whisky Trail.

Festival organisers are hopeful that the event, which would have been celebrating its 21st year in April, will be able to go ahead in person on 3rd – 8th November 2021 providing it is safe for everyone to travel at that time, based on Scottish Government advice.

The decision to postpone original plans for the 2021 Whisky Festival reflects the quickly-evolving situation as a result of the new variant of the Covid-19 virus and current recommendations from the Scottish Government to restrict public gatherings and travel as a preventative measure.

James Campbell, Chairman at The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, said, “Given whisky lovers won’t be able to come to Speyside for our annual festival this April, we have decided to take the festival to them until it is safe for visitors to return to Malt Whisky Country hopefully later in the year.

We can’t wait to welcome new and returning visitors from the UK and further afield to this beautiful part of the world. In the meantime, we hope that our online programme of events in April will lift everyone’s spirits and give people a taste of what to expect from the festival in November. We will then revert back to our traditional date in 2022.”

The full programme of virtual events will be listed on www.spiritofspeyside.com and will be available for preview on 11th March 2021. Tickets will go on sale online on 16th March 2021.

Time running out to enter Benromach Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival Photography Competition

The shutter is about to come down on entries for the Benromach Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival Photography Competition 2015. Photographers have until November 25 to submit their images for the competition.

The overall winner will receive a five-day commission to attend the 2015 Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival from April 30 to May 4, and capture the passion, revelry and atmosphere of the event. Their winning image, along with the other entries, will also go on public display at a touring exhibition visiting locations across Scotland.

There are three separate categories in the competition. Icons of Speyside encourages photographers to focus on subtle and obvious landmarks of the area, from whisky distilleries to landscapes. Speyside in Monochrome is for entrants who are able to capture the beauty of the area in black and white print, while Flora and Fauna of Speyside is for nature specialists.

Ewen Mackintosh, chief operating officer of Gordon and MacPhail, owners of competition sponsors Benromach Distillery, says, “The huge variations in the subject matter surprises us every year: just when we think we have seen every image there is to see of Speyside, we get a brand new perspective on this wonderful whisky producing region.

“We are famous for our whisky, but this competition celebrates everything that is great about Speyside from the breathtaking landscape and wildlife to landmark buildings and the people who live here.

“Once again the shortlisted photographs will form part of a touring exhibition, which will help us to spread the word about the Festival across Scotland. We will also be asking visitors to the exhibition to vote for their favourite image for the People’s Choice Award.”

James Campbell, chairman of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, adds, “This competition has helped to raise the profile of the Festival, but just as importantly it has given amateur photographers the chance to share their work with the public when they may not have otherwise been able to do so.”
